| DescriptionThe basic need was for a system that could update the main database while the delivery and picking staff was in the field. The solution provided was a GSM-enabled Handheld, Symbol’s PPT 2837 with built-in barcode scanner. The procedure for dispatching / picking packages was simplified as follows: Upon picking each package a unique bar-coded tracking number (airway bill number) is assigned to it which is the identification number of the form that contains the shipment details. This number on the form is scanned using PPT 2837 and as soon as it is scanned, the number is transmitted to the main database via GSM. The same bar-coded tracking number is scanned at every stage in the shipping process and the information is updated on the main server in the same manner. |
