| DescriptionThe prime objective of the automation process was to eliminate the keypunch operation so that redundancy could be removed from the system and optimum accuracy could be obtained. For this they were given Symbol’s SPT-1746 handheld computers with built-in Scanners and Radio Frequency (RF) support. Each of their bales is now stitched with a label that has a unique barcode that becomes its identification number. Using an SPT-1746, the buyer assigns each bale a grade and some other attributes, which are sent to the server computer running the oracle database through WLAN. A visual basic interface is used to receive and analyze data and finally update the database. |
